St John Karp

Ramblings of an Ornamental Hermit

Photography

I got into film photography in 2015 when I bought an instant camera, and then got an old 35mm stereo camera as a novelty. It’s true that film is addictive because once I started I couldn’t stop. Most of these document the kinds of things I saw when I lived in San Francisco — the easy-to-overlook bits and pieces of the urban landscape that made it such a wonderful and weird place to be. I moved to New Orleans after that and found that there was simply less to photograph because everything there is on display. I wasn’t interested in photographing things that were competing for my attention so I fell out of the habit for a while, but I still like to take a camera out with me when I walk around a city. You never know what you’ll find.
